What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is one of the hottest topics discussed in the entire IT fraternity with huge attention. The
dramatic change in the computing service provisions is worth noticing. Bigger organizations and institutes
have already decided to bring in cloud computing as their prime aim within their premises. Although
there is increasing likeliness about the cloud environment, still it is seen that there is widespread
unawareness about benefits, disadvantages and its security of this platform. Therefore, this blog is a
mere attempt to let you understand what is cloud computing, and things you should know about it.

What is Cloud Computing?

Putting it in simpler words it is nothing but outsourcing your IT infrastructure through internet. Think of
the electricity or gas you are using in home, you can access at any time you want, in whatever amount
you want and you have to pay for only what you have consumed. Likewise cloud computing makes it
possible to access computing resources as per our needs from the service provide without the need
of your own hardware or software. Due to cloud computing, it is possible to utilize these computing
resources whenever you want and that too without any limits.

Cloud computing is based on the architecture that follows the rule of sharing computing resources
flexibly. This allows the organizations to adjust their computing needs in their premises by dynamically
adjusting the available hardware resources depending on the actual needs. Companies do not have to
adjust their configuration each time when the cloud services are being used or staying idle.

Models of Cloud Computing

Usually cloud computing is divided in four different models or categories Public, Private Community and
Hybrid cloud.

Public Cloud: Out of all these categories, the most common category is public computing and whenever
there is discussion about cloud computing it is based on the public cloud model. Here the available
resources are dynamically configured and provisioned through internet and the provider invoice
subscribers as per their usage.

Private cloud: It is limited to specific set of customers wherein cloud infrastructure is configured in such
a manner that it is available for specific people or for the specific organization. The resources utilized for
such cloud are maintained either at the premises of organization or out of the premises.

Community cloud: This is entity where many organizations utilize the cloud infrastructure with similar
needs at the same time from the available resources. It can be said that community cloud is a mix blend
of private and public cloud where accessing more resources is possible for private cloud subscribers and
with decreased invoice than private cloud subscribers.

Hybrid cloud: this model is something where different internal and external cloud service providers
come together to utilize the resources from single cloud infrastructure. In future hybrid cloud will surely
come out as one of the most common cloud platforms due to the increased choices and opportunities
for accessing specific services within the same cloud infrastructure without switching to the completely
strange provider. The best thing in Hybrid cloud you can gain complete control over the infrastructure
deciding which services to host and which to not by configuring available hardware’s and software’s in
that manner.
